After qualifying the prestigious UPSC exam and being selected for the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in the year
1986, he served in the Maharashtra cadre for ten years. During this time, he held several key positions:
- Sub-divisional officer at Phaltan.
- Officer on special duty for the state’s Chief Secretary.
- Director, State Archives, Mumbai.
- Chief Executive Officer at Ratnagiri and Amaravati Zilla Parishads.
- Additional Collector, Pune.
- Director, Women, Child and Disabled Welfare Department, Maharashtra.
District Collector, Raigad (Alibag).
- Deputy Secretary to the Chief Minister, Maharashtra
While in service, he initiated several innovative and impactful administrative programs. Among them:
1. A pioneering initiative to expedite long-pending land dispute cases through a special fast-track revenue court system.
2. Various schemes to promote literacy and universal education – his idea of literacy and post-literacy campaign was recognized & applauded at the national level as a model project.
3. Programs dedicated to upholding the rights of women and farmers.
4. Public awareness campaigns against corruption and superstitions.
In 1996, as per his personal resolve, he voluntarily resigned from the civil services.
Post-resignation, he spearheaded a mass movement aimed at promoting clean and efficient governance. That same year, he founded a public charitable trust named Chanakya Mandal Pariwar, with the following mission statement:
- To develop youths with global consciousness and competence.
- To develop professionals with national character.
In 2001, he served as the ‘Director General’ of Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India.
Today, many of his students-walking the path he paved-are serving across the nation from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, Kutch to Kohima, and even on global platforms in Indian Foreign Services. These individuals work not just as officials, but as ‘Karyakarta Adhikari’, committed to service.
