Some Highlights: 

  • Expert faculty are assigned for each subject, offering in-depth knowledge and guidance to students.  
  • Initially, there is a daily session of 2 hours. Then, later there will be two sessions of 2 hours each per day. (One day off in a week)  
  • Occasional special sessions are conducted by administrative officials serving in the government. 
  • The guidance provided will also benefit candidates appearing for other exams alongside the State Services exam, such as PSI, STI, ASO, and agriculture-related exams. 
  • Complete preparation is also undertaken for the language subjects (Marathi and English).

  • Test series are conducted following the pattern of the commission and are organized on a subject-wise basis. These test series consist of more than 30 tests in total.

MPSC, which stands for Maharashtra Public Service Commission, is a constitutional body established under Article 315 of the Indian Constitution for the formation of the Maharashtra State Public Service Commission. 

The role of MPSC is to conduct competitive examinations and select candidates for various positions and services under the Maharashtra government’s jurisdiction. Through MPSC, competitive examinations are conducted for different posts in different departments of the state government to select candidates. 

Starting in the year 2023, the commission will conduct two Combined Preliminary Examinations. 

  1. The Maharashtra Civil Services Gazetted (Group A and Group B) and Combined Preliminary Examination. 
  2. The Maharashtra Non-Gazetted (Group B) and Gazetted (Group C) Services Combined Preliminary Examination.

The Maharashtra State Services Examination consists of three stages of examination. 

  1. The first stage is the Preliminary Examination. (400 marks) 
  2. The second stage is the Main Examination. (800 marks) 
  3. The third stage is the Interview. (100) 

 (The final selection is made based on the total marks obtained in the Main Examination and Interview.) 

Preliminary Examination 

Important Note: Starting from 2022, the Maharashtra State Services Preliminary Examination now includes a CSAT (Civil Services Aptitude Test) Paper, which is qualifying in nature. As a result, the

cut-off for the Preliminary Examination will be based only on the marks obtained in Paper 1.

  1. It is mandatory for candidates to appear for both papers. 
  2. Both papers will have a negative marking system. One-fourth of a question’s marks will be deducted for each incorrect answer. (1/4 negative marking system)

Maharashtra State Services Preliminary Examination Syllabus 

PAPER I (200 Marks) 

  1. Current Affairs of State, National, and International Importance. 
  2. History of India and Indian National Movement, along with Maharashtra’s Contribution. 
  3. Geography of Maharashtra, India, and the World – Natural, Social, and Economic Geography. 
  4. Indian and Maharashtra Polity and Administration – Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Urban Administration, Public Policy, Rights-related Questions, etc. 
  5. Economic and Social Development – Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Democracy, Initiatives in the Social Sector, etc. 
  6. Environmental Ecology, Biodiversity, and Climate Change – General questions, not requiring subject specialization. 
  7. General Science. 


PAPER II (200 Marks) 

  1. Quantitative Aptitude. 
  2. Interpersonal Skills, including Communication Skills. 
  3. Logical Reasoning and Analytical Ability. 
  4. Decision-Making and Problem-Solving. 
  5. General Mental Ability. 
  6. Numerical Ability (Numbers and their Relations, Order of Magnitude, etc.) and Data Interpretation (Tables, Graphs, Charts, Sufficiency of Data, etc.) at the 10th-grade level. 
  7. Marathi and English Language Comprehension Skills (at the 10th/12th-grade level). 

Note – 1: The assessment of Marathi and English language comprehension skills at the 10th/12th-grade level (last section of Paper 2 in the syllabus) will be conducted in the respective languages itself. It will be carried out through the sections dedicated to Marathi and English languages.
